Cleaning
Your Car Battery
Although
it’s a good idea to use a post cleaner to clean your battery
posts, in a pinch, go and buy a can of soda, preferably “Coke” as in the Registered Trademarked "Coca Cola" soda
(because of its high acid content. Don’t believe us? Fine, go
and put a penny in a glass of “Coke”as in the Registered Trademarked "Coca Cola" soda,
overnight. See what happens.) and pour it over your battery
connections and post. Wipe off with a rag or paper towel. It will
clean up the corrosion quick, fast, and in a hurry!
How
often should I change my sheets?
Change
your bed sheets about once every 7 to 10 days. (To learn more, go
check out #64 in the baking soda tips.)
Dishwasher
Tips:
You
can run your sponges through the dishwasher about every 3 to 4 days
to disinfect and deodorize them instead of tossing them away.
You
can run plastic (NOT PAPER, we know some of you, as well as us, are
cheap, but NOT THAT CHEAP) disposable plates through your dishwasher
about three times before they become useless.
Once a week, run a soap dispenser full of bleach through the dishwasher without any dishes in it. (You can put tennis shoes in, if you are too cheap and trying to save on water.)
About once a month run a soap dispenser load of vinegar without any dishes or clothes in it. This will keep your dishwasher clean, sanitized, and free of odor and keeps the heating coil from water deposit buildups. (Do not run the vinegar more than once a month, as it can cause your dishwasher's heating coil to quit working.) One of our staff members has used this method and the dishwasher is still going strong after NINE years.
Don’t
go and buy new bowls or sealing containers:
Just
use the whip cream bowls and butter/margarine tubs to store your
foods.
Getting Rid Of That Nasty Old Mold!
Use a half and half mixture of bleach and water into a spray bottle. Spray it on. Let it sit for five minutes. Depending upon how bad the mold is, you may have to repeat. Once all of the mold is gone, spray on bleach and let it dry. Your mold will not return. (Two of our staff members used this method after their basement flooded and created black mold. As Miz Kathy says, "You don't need all of those expensive products, just this mixture. You might need just a little elbow grease, though.)
Tips For Your Dryer!
First, take out the lint trap. Disconnect your vent hose on the back of the dryer. Vacuum out the inside of where your lint trap was. This will pull out all of the lint that was trapped in there, and prevent a fire in your dryer. Where the hose was connected, vacuum out the back of the dryer where the hose was just connected. Also, vacuum the hose that is now disconnected from the back of the dryer. This will remove any excess lint, dirt, etc., which could have caused a fire.
If you live in colder country, (like up north), and you don't want to have the cold air sneak in through your vent hose, then attach a knee high panty hose to where the hose was previously connected. You can then staple the hose to the wall to block the draft from coming in.
