(You see, I have beaten ALMOST EVERYTHING that could be determined BAD for my health. I started by beating my marijuana addiction well over 14 years ago. I then beat my brandy and booze addiction, which you read about last week about four years ago. I beat my cigarette addiction almost two years ago. I just beat my fingernail biting about two weeks ago. So, that just leaves my SIZE as the only thing I have not beaten YET.) So, you could bet I was excited when I found a phrase that made me feel good about being 300 plus pounds! (Sorry to disillusion any of you. If it's any comfort, in my mind, I'm 165 pounds.) Here's the phrase that made me think "Wow! That's Great! Now, I can feel good about being FAT!" "I'm not FAT! I'm A Champion In The Battle Against Anorexia!" Okay, you can stop laughing now! (I thought it was funny, too.) But, there's a problem with that phrase. (Yes, we call a problem a problem. If you want to know why, you will have to find out from Open Your Daily Newspaper & MAKE MONEY! or at the very least keep reading this piece.) If I chose to use that label every time someone looked at me funny because I am a big man, then I don't have to consider overcoming the weight. Everybody thinks Political Correctness is something to be cherished. Sorry, but I've got to say it does far more harm than good. As one father told the school officials of his little daughter's school, "Calling my little girl "mentally challenged" does not change the fact that she is retarded. She is still going to be facing the same challenges, regardless of what you call her situation." When we label something, it's to keep us in our comfort zone. It's about making us feel good about our situation. And, It Does Absolutely Nothing To Make Us Want To Change It! If you have a situation, call it what is. Recognize it. Now, quit wallowing in self-pity because you have recognized it for what it is! Do Something About It! Now, start thinking of at least 10 ways to overcome that situation. If you are poor, which is a mental condition, then realize that only you can bring yourself out of that situation. We just met a couple last week who moved from where they were to a city about 55 miles away from us. They have practically no money to speak of and moved all their worldly possessions up here in just a camper trailer that the wife had inherited from her mother. They decided to move into a trailer that we knew about, sight unseen. Now, we had been in that trailer before. Last year, in starting to restore it, one of the previous owners retiled the floor and laid down some carpet. Shortly after tearing down the cupboards and taking the kitchen sink out of the way to re-tile the floor, he quit, and sold it to someone else. That person was supposed to move in with her boyfriend who broke up with her the next week, so she sold it to somebody else. But, that current owner, it turned out, had not paid the montly rent on the trailer and never moved in. So, not only was this trailer piled up with trash, in a state of disrepair, and in need of some bad restoration, it turned out the court owner had gotten a judgment against the previous owners and claimed the trailer. He posted a sign on the door stating that the trailer was now the property of the court, and there was to be "no trespassing." But, someone had removed the sign. So, this couple moved into the place, unaware of their situation. The next day, the court owner visited them and informed them they were trespassing! He even had the cops on the way to evict them! We'll let you know how it ended in the Saturday edition of Guided Thinking!
