How can thankfulness equal money?
Well, the fact is that every time you are thankful for what you have and what you have already received, (even if it isn't in physical form, yet) the more you will get.
The universe is based on thankfulness. If you are truly thankful for everything, then you are in tune with the way that the Great Energy (that we happen to call God) works.
When you resent things and are spiteful, then the universe decides you have not deserved more.
Now, you may choose not to believe this. That's okay.
Choose not to believe in the law of gravity and step off a thirty story building, and you will fall-- regardless of whether you chose to believe it or not.
Also, you may not understand how it works.
You don't have to understand how electricity works to flip a light switch, but you know that when you do, light comes on.
So, try being thankful for everything, and see if it doesn't work for you!
